Awareness Campaign about the dangers and effects of the phenomenon of roadblocking

In Marib, Musaala Organization for Human Rights facilitated dialogues between tribes, youth, and authorities around tribal road blockades in Marib Setting up road blockades manned by armed fighters is a common tactic that Yemeni tribes use as a form of protest.

In Marib, the tactic unfortunately began targeting IDPs travelling through and into the governorate as they fled their homes. The blockades also seized critical oil, diesel, gas, and food supplies that were badly needed as the government received more and more displaced persons. To address this issue, Musaala worked to broker a Pact of Honor, which
stated that the practice of setting up roadblocks and of disrupting public safety is a “negative and
unusual act.”

Once the text of the document was agreed to by all parties, the Pact of Honor was handwritten by a notary on special paper, in accordance with traditional tribal community practice for preparing legal and other official documents. More than 235 individuals signed the document, including local government leaders, sheikhs, socially prominent individuals, figures, religious leaders, political party staff, military leaders, activists, academics, LCSO personnel, government, and private sector employees, as well as tribal youth and other residents.
