Marib: April 22, 2024

As part of the activities of the Aoun Initiative for Legal Support, Musaala Organization for Human Rights handed over to the Prison Administration of Marib Police Department the child-friendly space that was established and equipped with a number of toys for the benefit of children accompanied by women detained in the women’s prison in Marib; in addition to the rehabilitated bathrooms in the central prison building after doing the necessary restoration and maintenance  to ensure a healthy and safe environment for prisoners and detainees in the central prison in Marib Governorate.

The initiative's director, Mohammed Al-Ghulisi, explained that the Musaala for Human Rights earlier last March had delivered a number of health and shelter bags to female prisoners in the women’s prison as part of the initiative’s activities, and that it is still providing legal support to insolvent male and female prisoners in the prison.

Al-Ghulisi said that these activities come within the framework of joint cooperation between local authorities and civil society organizations in the governorate, which is represented in civil society’s support of state agencies in protecting and promoting human rights in detention centers and prisons in Marib Governorate.

Note that this initiative's activities are implemented by Musaala for Human Rights in partnership with Resonate! Yemen Foundation and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, among a number of other initiatives being implemented in Marib and Shabwa, as part of the Governance of Civil Society Organizations in Yemen (GoCSOs) project.
